UAE Overtime Calculator - 125% and 150% Rates

The rules applied

Overtime is calculated on the basic wage, not the gross package.
Hourly basic = monthly basic divided by 30 days, then by 8 hours.
Standard hours are 8 per day or 48 per week, reduced by two during Ramadan.
Overtime should not exceed two hours per day except in the cases the law allows.
Night hours between 10pm and 4am attract 150%, except for shift workers.
Rest-day and public-holiday work attracts 150%, or a compensatory day off.

Frequently asked questions

Is overtime paid on basic or gross salary?

On the basic wage. This is the most common payroll error we see in the UAE: an employer calculates overtime on the gross package and overpays for years, or uses gross in one system and basic in another and cannot reconcile the two.

When does the 150% rate apply?

For hours worked between 10pm and 4am, on the weekly rest day, or on a public holiday. Shift workers whose normal rotation falls in the night window are the exception to the night rule.

What is the daily overtime limit?

Two hours per day, except in the specific circumstances the law permits. Consistent overtime beyond that is a compliance exposure, and it is usually invisible until somebody adds up a year of timesheets.

Can the system calculate this automatically?
