Looking to Relocate Your Biometric Device? Here's How We Help

Most relocation disasters happen in the first ten minutes, when someone unscrews the device before anyone exports the data.

We get the same call every few weeks: the office moved over the weekend, the movers took the attendance device off the wall, and now nobody can find last month's punch records. Sometimes we recover them. Sometimes we cannot.

The correct order

  • Export users, fingerprint templates and the full punch log — before anything is touched
  • Photograph the wiring and note the device IP and server settings
  • Survey the new premises: door type, power, network point, cable route
  • De-install carefully, including locks, exit buttons and power supplies
  • Reinstall, re-cable, reconfigure the network and re-point the software
  • Verify a full day of punches before you call it done

The settings people forget

The new office almost certainly has a different IP range. If the device had a static address, it will not reach the server at the new site and it will look completely dead while quietly buffering punches. Ten minutes of network reconfiguration prevents a week of confusion.
