Fixed terminals only work if the employee walks past one. Sales reps, site supervisors, drivers and technicians do not, so their hours end up on a WhatsApp message or a self-declared timesheet.
How it works
You draw a radius around each site on a map — 50 metres for an office, 500 for a yard. When the employee taps clock-in, the app reads GPS position and only accepts the punch inside that radius, stamping the coordinates on the record. Outside it, the punch is refused or flagged for approval, depending on your policy.
Stopping the obvious cheat
Fake GPS apps exist, so the app checks for mock-location providers and rooted or jailbroken devices, and can require a selfie on clock-in for roles where that matters. It is not unbeatable, but it moves cheating from trivial to deliberate — and a deliberate, logged attempt is a disciplinary matter with evidence attached.
Where it genuinely fails
Underground car parks, steel warehouses and dense towers degrade GPS accuracy badly. For those, keep a fixed terminal at the entrance and use geofencing only for staff who are genuinely mobile. Mixing both is normal — most of our customers run terminals and mobile side by side.
