Every "best biometric device" list online is a brand catalogue with prices removed. This one is written from installation history: what we fit in Dubai offices, warehouses and sites, what came back for support, and what the customer wished they had bought instead.
Start with environment, not brand
An air-conditioned office reception can run the cheapest fingerprint terminal on the market for years. A warehouse gate cannot. Dust, sweat, worn fingertips and 45°C afternoons are what kill fingerprint accuracy, and no amount of brand loyalty fixes it. If the device lives anywhere near a loading bay or a site gate, go straight to visible-light face recognition and stop comparing fingerprint models.
Match capacity to double your headcount
Enrol two fingers per employee — you should, because a cut thumb otherwise means a manual entry every morning — and a 1,000-template device holds 500 people, not 1,000. Add hiring growth and you want roughly double your current headcount in capacity on day one.
The price bands we quote in Dubai
- Entry fingerprint terminal (up to ~20 staff): AED 450-800
- Mid-tier face + fingerprint (20-100 staff): AED 900-1,600
- Advanced face recognition (100-500 staff): AED 1,500-3,200
- Enterprise / high-security fusion face: AED 3,200-4,500
- Installation and cabling per device: AED 250-600 depending on cable run
The mistake that costs the most
Buying the device first and thinking about software later. The hardware is a one-time AED 1,000; the software is what you pay for every year and what decides whether HR still rebuilds the timesheet in Excel. Choose the platform, then buy a terminal that talks to it.
